Great news for nature lovers! Thanks to lots of student work, a new mile-long nature trail on campus is now available for everyone to enjoy. Class of 2011 graduate Elizabeth Strickland organized and ran the project as part of her honors program, including supervising 14 fellow students as they worked to restore the trail.
Although much of Delphian School’s 800-acre campus is forest land, without a nearby trail, it was hard for students to get out and enjoy the beautiful northwest woods so close outside their door.
Dr. Jay Nunley, Delphian’s Science Curriculum Development Specialist, helped Elizabeth solve this problem. He helped organize nature specialists to work with Elizabeth and the other students. One specialist who helped was Bill Wood, a professional forester who manages Magnus Tree Farm near Sherwood, Oregon. Mr. Wood inspected the trail grounds and helped work out a plan for restoring the trail.
