Varsity Choir in WOU Fall Choral Festival

On Monday, November 23rd, the Delphian School Varsity Choir participated in the Western Oregon University Fall Choral Festival.

The event provides the choir a chance to perform in front of an audience of several hundred of their peers and a panel of four certified choral adjudicators. The choir performed “Famine Song,” “I Will Be Earth” and the spiritual “Wade in the Water.” After the performance, they were given an on-stage clinic by one of the adjudicators where they were praised for their discipline and overall performance. The choir also got written comments from the other three judges that they can use to improve as the year progresses.

After lunch all of the students from the ten choirs participating in the festival rehearsed two pieces to sing together and record at the end of the day. Dr. Solveig Homquist, Director of Choral Activities at Western, directed the mass choir. She chose a fascinating holiday piece in Bulgarian, “Stani Nine Gospodine” (Rise Kind Sir) and Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”
